Float Glass Clear

Clear glass is produced by pouring the molten glass onto a large shallow bath of molten tin. Since the density of the glass is lighter than tin, the glass will “float” on the tins surface. The thickness of the glass is determined by the speed upon which the solidifying glass is drawn off the bath. It is then passed through to the lehr, where the glass is cooled and finally materializes into one extended continuous ribbon. The production of tinted glass follows the same routine, with the addition of small quantities of metal oxides.
